Poll finds economy top issue among Indiana voters

INDIANAPOLIS — A new poll confirms what many Indiana residents already knew — the issue voters care most about is the economy.

A poll released Friday by WISH-TV in Indianapolis showed 43 percent named the economy, while 15 percent named health care and 12 percent said education. Nine percent said taxes were the top issue and 6 percent named family values.

Gov. Mitch Daniels suggested earlier this year that the next president should call a truce in the political battles over social issues so the nation can focus on its most urgent problems including the economy. Some social conservatives disagreed.

Polling firm EPIC-MRA conducted the statewide telephone survey of 500 likely voters from Sept. 29 through Oct. 1. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.
