OUR VIEW: Get up - it's Homecoming!

AT ISSUE: ItGÇÖs been a great week of events, letGÇÖs finish strong

Yes, the Homecoming parade is ridiculously early.

We wish the parade was moved to Friday night, which could fill out a Homecoming Week that has a glaring hole the night before the game.

But even if you didn't make it for the blaring procession at 8:30 a.m., hopefully you can muster up plenty of spirit for the big game.

With a win last week to start the Mid-American Conference season 1-0, today's game puts the Cardinals at a crossroads. Are they contenders or pretenders?

Well fans, are we contenders?

Don't let this day pass you by. You get four chances for this in your college career — squeezing into the cheer block, joining in the disorganized cacophony of chirping, singing along during halftime as the staple anthem of "Don't Stop Believin'" blares from the speakers.

To be honest, most of us around the office weren't able to make it to the major events of Homecoming Week, such as Air Jam and the Bed Race. Judging from the throngs of people that packed John R. Emens Auditorium on Thursday night, we know we were missing out on something big.

Students said it was so loud at Emens, they couldn't hear the fire alarms going off from talcum powder that had been thrown in the air during an act.

Today, the football game caps off another terrific week of events on campus. Live it up, Ball State.

Have fun in the tailgating lot — not too much, mind you. Enjoy what should be a beautiful Saturday by basking in the sun at Scheumann Stadium. This might be one of the last before the chill sets in.

Like we said, the schedule's not quite perfect. The next Homecoming Steering Committee has a year to analyze and adjust the schedule. Maybe that's enough time to move the parade back a day and figure out the canceled "Pimp My Grill" contest.

But we can't worry about that right now. All that matters is that we've got today to shine. Ball State, don't stop believin'.
