MUNCIE— A Muncie couple was arrested after police say their 5-week-old suffered brain damage from abuse.
Nineteen-year-old Crystal Saunders and 25-year-old Michael Wihebrink were being held without bond Thursday in the Delaware County Jail on preliminary charges of neglect causing serious bodily injury. Wihebrink also was charged with battery of a child.
Police said the couple's child was being treated at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis after suffering multiple injuries. Court documents say the injuries include damage to the brain due to the lack of oxygen, broken arms and a broken leg.
The Star Press reports investigators believe the injuries resulted from abuse by the couple.
A jail officer says there's no record of the couple having an attorney.
