It's time to let loose and boogie down at the Ball State Museum of Art's dance competition.
On Saturday from noon to 7:30 p.m., students, families and friends will have the opportunity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the art museum with dancing and the chance to win prizes in a dance contest.
Admission will be $5 for anyone with a Ball State ID card. Any Family Weekend guests will get in for free.
Tania Said, education curator at the Museum of Art, said the event is not only to celebrate the 75th anniversary, but also to celebrate the support of students in the past 75 years.
"We thought it was important that there would be a high level event for students particularly, but most important because we wanted them to be recognized," she said. "Students have made us what we are today."
For the dance contest, pairs can sign up for $7.50. Registration is at noon, and the competition begins at 12:30 p.m. The only requirement to win the $250 top prize is for the duo to stay standing up and moving the entire time.
Anyone participating in the event will have he opportunity to win something, Said explained.
According to Said, if more than one couple remains dancing at 7:30, the prize will most likely be split. The other option is a dance off.
Activities other than dancing and music include games, food, art, cornhole and a cake walk.
Said explained although the museum was established and geared toward the community, students have given more support.
"This was an educational institution and the museum was helpful for students," she said. "Many students that come in had never gone to a museum, and we appreciate their support and visits."
She said the staff organizing BSUMA Mania had some help from BSU's Dance Marathon organization.
Dance Marathon holds an event similar to BSUMA Mania each February to raise money for the Riley Hospital for Children.
Kelli Martin, president of Dance Marathon, said it was fun helping out.
"We helped guide them through planning with ideas and suggestions," she said. "It was good to get our name out there to other people. It was something new and different."
BSUMA Mania is a new addition to Family Weekend this year.
