The anticipation has been brewing and students are ready to find out which greek chapter they will call home.
Rather than running across a field as a group, now sorority members will be separated into sections, or "Pi Chi groups", and formally introduced into their new greek chapter. This will take place at 6 p.m. at the Quad and is closed to current and prospective sorority members.
Melissa Pieczynski, vice president of community relations for the Pan-Hellenic Council, said this year the council wanted the bidding process to be better organized by choosing girls in numbers.
"First we let the 14 girls go through, and we will release them by Pi Chi groups to their new chapters," she said.
Pieczynski said this new process help create a bigger bond between the sisters.
"They are a big support system to each other, and they know that no matter which chapter they are in they will have friends and everything [will] work out," she said. "To find the right place for each member is important, but they already start out with a support group."
Mallory Cheever, recruitment chair for the PHC, said each potential new member sees 10 chapters then ranks the chapters in order of preference. Chapter presidents choose new members each year based on their values, personality and character.
Working down 10 chapters into one choice is dependent on the values and efforts made by the prospective member.
Today, prospective sorority member will get their invitations to their favorite Ball State greek life chapter, something Pieczynski was able to witness.
"Overall seeing today [Sunday] how excited they were to get their invitations and choosing the final decision, it was really exciting," she said. "Knowing they find some place they feel comfortable is part of making Greek life better. We have had so many women complete this year and hopefully it'll continue to grow every year and every semester from now on."
