SOCCER: Ball State drops MAC opener 3-0 to Western Michigan

Playing its first home game in 33 days, Ball State's soccer team had a disappointing return to its own field Friday afternoon.

The Cardinals hoped to start the Mid-American Conference portion of their schedule on a positive note. Instead, Ball State (6-3) lost 3-0 to Western Michigan (5-4) after allowing three second-half goals.

Broncos forward Jackie Drees opened scoring in the 49th minute with a header off a Stephanie Skowneski assist. Skowneski scored the next two goals in the 54th and 88th minute.

Ball State outshot Western Michigan 11-5 but was shut out for the third time this season. The Cardinals have been shut out in each of their losses.
