Number of Ball State bike thefts continue to rise

Bike thefts are continuing to rise at Ball State University.

Thirty-nine bicycles have been stolen since classes started about a month ago, Robert Fey, associate director of Public Safety said. Twenty-six bikes have been stolen in the past 12 days alone.

"We had seven bicycles stolen over the weekend. Three of these happened this morning," Fey said.

Fey said many bicyles have been stolen by cutting through wired bike locks and that bicycle owners should lock up their bikes with metal bike locks.

Students are asked to call University Police Department if they suspect someone is attempting to cut through a lock.

"Call us immediately," Fey said.
