Two excellent showings by the Ball State men's golf team have garnered the Cardinals national recognition.
Ball State was ranked 31st in the nation this week after tying for second in the Wolf Run Intercollegiate and sixth in the Cardinal Collegiate.
"It's a testament to the work that these guys have done over the course of the first couple events," coach Mike Fleck said. "It's a nice honor, but obviously at the same time, we've got a lot of work to do. It's part of the process of continuing to get better and make progress."
Central Florida, the team Ball State tied with at Wolf Run, is ranked 18th. Miami University, the winner of the Cardinal Collegiate this week, was placed 58th.
Fleck said those rankings indicate how much the team underperformed at the Cardinal Collegiate.
"We weren't sharp to the point that we were the week before, but we still managed to pull out a really good finish," Fleck said. "We're definitely capable of doing better. That's the exciting thing about this group because I think they feel confident in their ability."
Ball State continues its season Oct. 3 and Oct. 4 at the Renaissance Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla.
