Quiznos is in its final stage of completion, and Ball State University crews are working on having the restaurant ready for students, faculty and staff.
Jim Lowe, director of engineering, construction and operations, said the space for Quiznos, located in the Student Wellness and Recreation Center, should be done later this week or early next week.
"We've been working with the back of the house for needs, and hook ups for electrical needs," he said. "But even when the area is completed, there are checklist items that need to be considered. As a food operation space, there would be more things to check."
Jon Lewis, director of campus dining services, said there is no established date for when Quiznos will open, but there will be an announcement as soon as they get a clear opening day.
"Things are shaping up, and we will send a broadcast e-mail letting students know when we open," he said.
Lewis said some of the parts that have to be worked on include walls, floors, installing freezers and training employees.
"It's quite complicated, and there have been several setbacks," he said. "But as soon as we know we will send out the message to the community."
Lewis said their plan is to have a full menu once the restaurant opens. Although Quiznos seems attractive to many, Lewis said he doesn't know what to expect as far as the number of consumers.
"Rec centers are a little different from other eateries, so quite frankly we don't know what to expect," he said.
Quiznos is not the only area in the recreation center that is near completion. Lowe said crews are still working on the punchlist for certain parts of the building, which he said is common with any construction.
