Next summer, Ball State will be the official host for the biggest instrumental camp in the country.
Selected as the third location since Music for All's start in 1976, the symposium will take place from June 18 to June 25.
Music for All is one of the largest music education organizations in the country. The organization conducts awareness campaigns, research and advocacy and has different programs, such as Orchestra America and Bands of America.
Ball State was selected from several proposals to host the symposium because of its approach to higher education, Scott McCormick, Music for All president and CEO, said in a statement.
"The commitment and cooperation of the institution from President Jo Ann Gora to the College of Fine Arts and School of Music, the Conferences and Special Events Office, Housing and Dining all were key to the decision to bring the summer symposium to Ball State," he said.
The symposium is one of 25 annual programs presented by the nonprofit educational organization, McCormick said. High school students attend the event and go into one of the music divisions, which includes concert band, marching band, jazz, percussion, orchestra, color guard and drum majors.
The move of the camp will mean an estimated $2.2 million annual economic impact on Muncie and East Central Indiana, Michael Hicks, director of the Center for Business and Economic Research, said.
Symposium participants are expected to travel to the region from more than 30 states and several countries.
The Music for All Summer Symposium will be held in Muncie through 2015.
