A former member of the Ball State University women's golf team is one shot off the lead after the opening day at the state amateur tournament.
Kristtini Cain shot a 1-over-par 73 to finish tied for third place in her first round at the Indiana Women's Golf Association State Amateur Championship on Monday in Anderson.
Cain finished her round with three birdies and three bogeys, including a double-bogey on the 13th hole. Following that hole she was able to birdie the par-3 15th hole to end the day within one shot of first-round leaders Milena Savich and Audrey Fellmeth.
As a shophomore at Ball State last season, Cain had two top-10 finishes. She also ended in tie for 15th place at the Mid-American Conference Championships in April.
Along with Cain, two current Ball State golfers are in the top 15 after the first round of the three-round tournament.
Junior Katie Windlan shot a 2-over-par 74 to finish in a tie for fifth place, and senior Rachael Pruett had a 4-over-par 76 to be in a tied for 13th place.
Play will resume with the second round beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
