WEST LAFAYETTE (AP) — A $1.5 million grant will train Indiana science teachers in a new curriculum that helps students learn through exploration and problem solving.
The Indiana Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Resource Network is holding summer workshops so teachers and administrators can become familiar with the new science program, which is scheduled to be used by schools beginning in fall 2011.
About 1,100 teachers trained this summer will teach the curriculum to more than 40,000 students in a pilot program beginning this fall.
State schools chief Tony Bennett says Indiana is making science education a priority, and the grant will help prepare students to join the work force in science, technology, engineering and math fields.
