Construction on Neely Avenue to be completed mid-August

Heading toward the middle of summer, Ball State University is still working on construction that is scheduled to end toward the beginning of the Fall Semester.

One of the university's main projects is the construction on Neely Avenue, which is on schedule, Jim Lowe, director of engineering, construction, and operations, said.

The reconstruction on Neely Ave, which is scheduled to conclude August 13, just ended its process of underground work. Pipes for the geothermal project were installed and facilities are laying gravel before placing the asphalt, Lowe said.

In the next three weeks, facilities will develop into working on the landscape, he said.

"The contractor has been doing a good job, and they have been keeping up," he said. "[The construction] has proceeded really well after all those days with rain."

Over the past few weeks, facilities brought pipes and placed them on University Green and LaFollette Field, which will be installed as part of the geothermal project, Lowe said.

"We are installing ‘supply and return hot water piping,' and we are modifying or extending our chill water piping for the university's geothermal system," he said. "Ball State had chill water pipes installed already, but we need pipes that will supply hot water."

Within the next three weeks facilities will install the pipes in the north side of LaFollette Complex. The remaining pipes will be stored until the end of the Fall Semester activities, when facilities will install them on the west side of the complex, he said.
