The Ball State University Museum of Art is celebrating its 75th anniversary and will continue to celebrate throughout the Fall Semester. Its celebration kicks off this weekend with an exhibition opening Friday and a family event on Sunday.
The Museum of Art will have a special exhibition opening at 5 p.m. Friday that will feature American Scene Prints from the Ned and Gloria Griner collection. The collection contains more than 75 prints from 57 artists and represents different styles that were significant in American art from the early 1900s through the late 1950s. That evening, the museum will host a jazz swing trio and appetizers. The exhibition will be on view from July 17 through September.
Tania Said, curator of education at the Museum of Art, said the exhibition shows art from the time the museum started and goes through the progress it has made. Said added that there will be tours on Saturday and there will be a discussion after the tours, where Ned Griner will talk about his collection.
"The Saturday will be more contemplative to the concept about the museum and its collection," she said. "The talk will be more tied with the 75th anniversary."
On Sunday the museum will have an event focused on kid-friendly tours and interactive activities for the family. The event starts at 2:30 p.m. and will end at about 4:30 p.m.
