With spring coming to an end and summer approaching, Muncie will be celebrating the second annual Spring Carnival next week.
The Spring Carnival, which begins Tuesday, May 25, and lasts through Monday, May 31, will be at West Side Park on the corner of White River Boulevard and Tillotson Avenue. The carnival will be sponsored by the Back to School Teachers' Store.
The Back to School Teachers' Store is a non-profit organization that collects school supplies, backpacks, teacher equipment or anything a school setting may need. It also accepts other items as well as personal donations and then distributes these items to seven school corporations in the area. Walmart, Lifetouch, Ontario Systems and Meijer are some of the organization's contributors.
Jackie Johnson, director of the Back to School Teachers' Store, said that although the organization's main goal is service, it also has to take care of regular expenses like store and utility bills, which is why it sponsors the Spring Carnival.
Johnson said last year was such a pleasant experience for the Back to School Teachers' Store that the organization wanted to sponsor the carnival for a second year.
"It was a very clean and nice atmosphere," she said. "The carnival is somewhere you can take your kids, girlfriend or just go with friends."
Bob Walsh, volunteer at the Back to School Teachers' Store, said there is something for everyone at the carnival.
"There will be small rides for children, large rides, food and games," Walsh said.
As with many carnivals, tickets are sold in sheets of 20 tickets per sheet. One sheet of tickets is $9 presale and $15 at the gate. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the carnival will have wristband days, which means people in attendance are able to pay $25 for a wristband and ride carnival rides all day. The carnival will be open from 5 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday and 2 to 11 p.m. Saturday through Monday.
"If we have good weather, we're estimating 5.000 attendees," said Johnson.
Donations can be made for the Back to School for Teachers' Store at the corner of 7th and South Madison Streets. The store is open for donations from 10:00 am to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.
