OUR VIEW: Daily News changing format for opinion section this summer

This summer, we are handing the forum section back to you — the readers.

Traditionally, the Daily News forum section has been a place for you to read our staff editorials and columnists' opinions on the topics relevant to the Ball State University community. However, that is changing this summer.

For the next 10 weeks, instead of the forum section primarily being a place for members of the Daily News staff to give their viewpoints, we want it to be a place for you to give your thoughts and opinions.

We know that you have thoughts on what happens here at Ball State and throughout Muncie, and now we are giving you the space to express your views.

Throughout the 2009-10 school year, we have done numerous things to increase reader interaction in the forum section, including running letters to the editor, online comments and comments sent to us via Twitter. These types of reader interaction will still continue, but we are going to take it to a whole new level this summer.

We want to hear from you, in the form of letters to the editor and guest columns. If you have an opinion on some Ball State news or feel that an issue needs to be brought to the Ball State community's attention, this forum section is the place for you to get in your two cents.

We aren't expecting everyone writing to us to be experts in a topic. More importantly, we know that everyone has issues or topics that they feel passionate about. Those are the topics we want to hear from you about.

This summer you will still see some columns from members of the Daily News staff. However, we want this renovated section to become more about you.

Despite these changes, the underlying idea behind of the forum page remains the same.

This the place for ideas and viewpoints to be expressed and discussed. This is the place for opinions to be expressed, ranging from the practical value of various majors to the Ball State butt slapper case.

These, along with many others, have been the buzz throughout campus, and the Daily News forum page has served as an outlet for people to voice their opinions.

Now we want your opinion, and we want your thoughts. Give them to us by going to bsudailynews.com and submitting a letter to an editor or commenting on a story. We have also updated the comment section of our website, so you can now comment on stories through Twitter and Facebook.

This is your section. Make the most of it.
