With the first part of North Quad under construction, several departments have moved their offices to other buildings until phase one is completed.
Departments that moved from North Quad are the department of modern languages and classics; political science; criminal justice and criminology; academic systems; and Sociology. Most of the offices have moved to West Quad and the Arts and Communications building. Office phone numbers remain the same.
Although faculty offices have moved, there is still no definitive location for all classes, which will be moved to other buildings throughout campus, said Kristi Royal administrative coordinator of the department of criminal justice and criminology.
"Classes will be scattered throughout Ball State," she said. "So students will have to pay more attention."
Kevin Kenyon, associate vice president of facilities planning and management, said phase one, which includes the west part of the building, is scheduled to be completed in November. Phase two will immediately begin in December, which involves working on the middle section of North Quad. The building's renovation is expected to be completed January 2012.
North Quad's renovation will include new floors, new handicap ramps for the entrances in front of Riverside Avenue and the removal of books from where the old library was located prior to Bracken Library's construction to make the area more open and usable, Kenyon said.
The building will continue to be a maze for some students, but the renovations will make the building more efficient, Kenyon said.
"[The building will] look very nice," he said.
