Ball State University students are raising awareness on the failing educational system in Central America.
A group of students will call their peers into action with Beyond Hunger: The Starving Minds of Central America.
After learning about the issues facing Central America's educational systems and the role America has in the problem, a group of students decided to take action.
"We found out about the issue through a class," Stacey Whittaker, event organizer, said. "Since learning about the problem, we felt compelled to do something about it."
Event organizer Kayla Pickersgill said the group wants to inform people about the situation so they know what needs to be done.
"People know there are problems in Central America," Pickersgill said. "They don't know that the whole root of the majority of Central America's problems lie in education."
The event will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Park Hall Multipurpose Room and will include a short video on the issues facing Central America, live student bands and free refreshments.
"We as the students have taken this issue to heart and we want to make this information available to others," Pickersgill said.
