A student who had donated blood prior to walking toward the Atrium passed out in the food court while waiting in line to pay today at about noon.
Kyle Kemps was treated by the Emergency Medical Services, after a fire truck, police cars and an ambulance arrived to the Art and Journalism building. The fire truck, which was in front of the building on McKinley Avenue's northbound lane, held traffic for about 10 minutes while its EMS team helped the student.
Several students, staff and faculty stood around while the EMS team talked with Kemps. A cashier at the atrium said she had not realized what had happened until after the EMS team arrived.
"The place was crowded," she said. "I didn't find out about [the student] until he was sitting."
A recruiter from the Fort Wayne blood region said donators are recommended to eat well, especially green leaf vegetables, and drink fluids to prevent feeling sick after donating blood.
