Steering committee happy with Greek Week

Members of Greek Life celebrated a successful Greek Week, commemorating the accomplishments of Ball State University's fraternity and sorority chapters with Greek-elodeon Get Your Slime On.

The Nickelodeon-themed week featured events such as the "All That!" Variety Show, "What Would You Do?" Event Challenge and "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" Community Picnic.

Carson Lance, director of the Greek Week Steering Committee, said the community supported the theme, adding to the success of Greek Week.

"It was the perfect time for us to do this theme because we remember that time as a kid," he said. "The theme was playful, useful, fun and creative."

Greek Week was not all fun and games, though. The week is an opportunity for the greek community to develop relationships with Ball State's campus and the Muncie community, showing the important values of brotherhood and sisterhood.

"It was nice to see people show their pride and unite," Lance said. "We were there for our brothers and sisters, and the brothers and sisters in other organizations."

Kayla Dalton, external public relations coordinator for the steering committee, said the variation of events showed the many facets of greek life, including the service, social and academic aspects of the community.

The week created a holistic feeling between several different chapters on campus, said Kelsey DeWees, events coordinator for the steering committee.

"It shows that we are community and we're all in this together," she said.

Dalton said if there was one person who attended a event and learned something new about greek life while having a good time, the goal of Greek Week was accomplished.

With this year over and another approaching, Lance said they are looking to the future of Greek Week.

"We are taking Greek Week to new heights and I'm excited to see that next year too," he said.
