Spectrum drag show to raise money for gay-straight alliance

Spectrum continues its Spring Week with their annual spring Drag Show tonight in Ball Gymnasium.

The theme for this year's event is the International Haus of Drag, said Kyle Stepler, secretary for Spectrum.

Stepler said the organization is trying to incorporate different nationalities across the world into the show through decorations and fashion ensembles.

The spring drag show has been a popular event in past years, said Stepler. Spectrum also has a fall drag show every October during PROUD Month. The attendance at the fall show has been consistently larger than the spring show, but the organization is still expecting around 200 people for tonight's event, he said.

This year's spring drag show will serve as a fundraiser in support of Jay County and their fight towards creating a gay-straight alliance within the community.

Jay County is facing a lot of opposition and is having trouble getting funding. The donations from the show will help support them, Stepler said.

The audience can donate by placing their contributions in buckets along the stage and by handing their donations to the on-stage performers.

The Drag Show will be held Saturday at 8 p.m. in Ball Gym. Admission is free and open to the public.
