One of the biggest events on Ball State University's calendar is here.
The Late Nite Carnival will begin tonight at 8.
About 1,000 students have preregistered for the Carnival, Hannah Harrison, assistant director for Programs, said. About 6,000 people normally attend the Carnival each year.
Late Nite is trying a couple of new things for this year's effort, including two stages of performers Friday and extending the event by adding a second day on Saturday.
"We got a lot of interest from students and staff to expand it to Saturday and we felt it was a good time to try it out," Harrison said. "I'll be curious to know how [the attendance] turns out."
Late Nite marketing coordinator Spencer Ozbun doesn't know how extending the Carnival to Saturday will affect attendance rates, he said.
Harrison said Friday's carnival will include 15 rides, games from the ride company, free games from student organizations and the two stages of entertainment.
Country singer Chuck Wicks will go on the main stage at 10 p.m., Harrison said. Student entertainers will perform on a side stage throughout the night.
Ozbun said he thought the Carnival was a good opportunity to bring Wicks to campus.
"He's an up-and-coming star, so it's probably our only chance to get someone like that on campus," he said. "This is the first time we're having someone who wasn't popular awhile ago and is fading out."
Harrison said Saturday will be similar to Friday night with the exception of the performances and the free games run by student organizations.
Late Nite throws the Carnival as an end-of-the-year party to the students, Harrison said. The organization tries to make every year's Carnival bigger than the last, she said.
"Carnival is one of the biggest events that takes place on campus," she said. "It's something we're offering students so they can relax before finals get here and so they can have fun with their friends."
The Late Nite Carnival is free for students. Admission for guests and faculty is $5.
