The sound of Holy Ghost Canyon can be considered desert folk.
1970s country artists Gram Parsons and Merle Haggard heavily influence the band, but it has many others.
"I think Tina Weymouth from the Talking Heads is a total babe," Chris Madsen said. "That's what I strive for as a bassist."
The members of Holy Ghost Canyon began playing music together in 2004.
Holy Ghost Canyon is made up of Adam Kuhn on guitar and vocals; Melanie Rau on drums; Jascha Updike on the lap steel, harmonica and banjo; Andrew Feigenbaum on keyboards; Christian Taylor on guitar; and Madsen on bass.
The band has gained popularity through the Indianapolis circuit playing shows at hot spots including The Vollrath, Big Car Gallery and Debbie's House. They were recently featured on Indianapolis Public Radio and have played alongside Jeffrey Lewis, Deer Tick and These United States.
The band is working on recordings at Queensize Studio, owned by the former member of Margot and the Nuclear So-and-So's Andy Fry.
