Brandon Stamp is remembered among his family and friends for his loyalty.
The freshman was killed in a car accident in Shelby County this weekend.
Freshman Brooke Wallace met Stamp in fourth grade at the Burris Laboratory School and the two were best friends since then. He was the person she looked to when she was having tough times.
"Brandon was the type of person who was always there for me no matter what," Wallace said.
She and another friend, freshman Nick Upchurch, struggled to find the right words to describe Stamp, who was figuring out what he wanted to do with his life.
"Brandon was a really smart kid," Upchurch said. "He meant a lot to a lot of people. He was really the best friend anyone could ask for. He'll definitely be missed by a lot of people."
Stamp's father Glen Stamp, chairman of the Department of Communication Studies, said his son had been experimenting with different classes to find what he wanted to do. He had brought home information about a few possible majors last week, Glen Stamp said. He described Brandon as fun loving, hard working and loyal to his friends and family.
He loved writing, art, music and sports. Brandon was a good student; he had a 3.4 GPA.
A viewing is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church at 1400 W. Riverside Ave. The funeral is 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Glen Stamp asked that donations be made to the Animal Rescue Fund rather than sending flowers. He and his wife thought that would be fitting because Brandon loved animals.
