Ball State receives highest federal recognition for service

Ball State University was named to the 2009 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, a recognition for the university's commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.

Six colleges and universities are recognized as presidential awardees each year, while an additional 115 are named to the distinction list and 621 schools are named as Honor Roll members. Ball State was among 22 Indiana schools that received the last of the three awards.

Schools are chosen based on including the scope and innovation of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for students and the extent to which the school offers academic service-learning courses.

The Corporation for National and Community Service, which administers the annual Honor Roll award, recognized more than 700 colleges and universities this year for their impact on community issues.
