The term for Cardinal Impact will finish in less than a month and its final project is an inaugural service day around the Muncie community.
Secretary Carson Lance said Wednesday night's induction of the new slate Student Connection was bittersweet for the group.
"We take for granted the things that weren't carried out," he said. "You don't really start figuring it out until it's over. But I'm still proud of what we did and what we accomplished."
Lance said about 60 students are signed up for Make an Impact Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Sign-in and work site distribution will be at the lobby of Pruis Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Lance said he anticipates a few more people showing up Saturday who haven't signed up yet.
Student Volunteer Services is the main cosponsor, but others include Lifestream Services, Inc. and Little Caesars.
There are about 20 sites, and projects range from trimming trees, to washing windows or cleaning barns. Lance said the group hopes to borrow tools and tree-trimmers from the facilities planning and management department.
"Looking back, I wish I would have programmed it at a better time during the year," Lance said.
Ball State University senior Christina Collins, a member of Chi Omega and a Muncie resident, said she's looking forward to giving back to the community.
"I think it's really important for students to show the community the positive side of them," she said.
Collins said other community service projects are usually related to campus or around campus. There's never been a service project on such a large scale, she said.
"It's only a couple hours," she said. "Compared to the feeling of making such an impact on the community, the cold just kind of gets pushed to the side."
