Gospel Explosion commemorates Black History Month

The Black Student Association will be hosting its annual Gospel Explosion at 7 p.m. in Pruis Hall. The event is being held as part of BSA's Black History Month Events.

BSA adviser and assistant director of Student Life Tiffany Washington said Gospel Explosion is an opportunity for Ball State University to enjoy a night of celebration and music through gospel. The night will also recognize an important aspect of African-American history.

BSA secretary Aleshia Smith said students should come because it will provide opportunities to expand their knowledge of other races on campus who like gospel music just as much as they do.

"Gospel Explosion, and really Black History Month, is not just for African-American students on campus," Smith said. "The Gospel Explosion is one of several events that BSA tries to promote unity for."

Besides the music, Gospel Explosion offers a religious side for attendees.

"You can't commemorate black history without going into the aspect of the church," Washington said. "Even through the times of slavery until today, the spiritual component of black history has always been one of the milestones [that] has helped in uplifting the spirits of African-Americans."

Everyone in attendance can expect to be energized from the show.

"Through Gospel Explosion, it is the hope that the students that come will leave inspired and uplifted and ready to take on the rest of the semester," Washington said.
