Downtown Development will meet today to address events and financial issues.
The group will meet at 3 p.m. in the third floor ballroom of the Patterson Building.
The group will talk about different events going on downtown, including a new budget proposal and plan for Downtown Development funding, an update on the cancelation of Muncie Gras and changing the name of the committee in charge of marketing downtown Muncie as a Main Street community.
Postponing Muncie Gras when the weather Saturday was not hazardous was upsetting but it was necessary because the weather for the weekend was unknown, Program Manager Cheryl Crowder said.
"It was a little hard for us when we realized [it], but none of us are weather people," she said. "We had until Wednesday to decide on whether we were going to cancel Muncie Gras because we wanted to make sure we canceled with bands and other services in time."
Despite the cancelation with some of the bands, Freak Show A Go-Go performed Saturday in downtown Muncie. Crowder is not sure whether the group will be back in March to perform at Muncie Gras.
Crowder said Downtown Development will give an update on how things will go now that Muncie Gras has been postponed. She said the group is expecting to see an increase in the number of people attending because of the weather and because it will have more time to promote the event.
"We'll keep people posted about what is going on, but everything remains the same," she said. "We were ready to do it then, so we'll be ready for March. We have more days to promote the event, tickets are still on sale and any tickets bought for last Saturday will be accepted."
Downtown Development will also keep people updated on the progress of the green space downtown park development and provide an update from the Muncie Urban Revival Association on parking projects downtown.
