Since taking office, President Jo Ann Gora has grown immersive learning opportunities at Ball State University, making the strengths of the university more visible.
At the Board of Trustees December meeting, the group decided to extend Gora's contract by two years, citing the positive impact she has made on the university. This will extend her tenure to June 30, 2014.
Her salary for next year will remain the same at $356,400. The original contract allowed her to take a six-month leave of absence, which would be available to her this year. However, it was amended to add an option of $220,000 additional pay instead of a leave of absence. University officials said they feel this is a critical time for the university, and a presidential leave of absence would not be in the university's best interest.
In her five years as president, Gora has helped increase immersive learning at the university. Gora is credited with creating emerging media initiatives like the geothermal conversion project, attracting a more diverse student body. and initiating the Ball State Bold campaign.
