CROSS COUNTRY: 2 Ball State runners get MAC academic award

Two members of the Ball State University cross country team received an academic honor Thursday.

Junior Ali Bishel and senior Sarah Kehe were named to the 2009 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team.

To be eligible for this academic award, a player must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and participate in at least half of the team's meets during the season. In addition, the 15 players for this team were selected by faculty athletics representatives at each MAC school.

Bishel is a landscape architecture with a 3.67 GPA and finished this season in 67th place at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. She also was named to the First Team All-MAC following a fourth-place finish at the MAC Cross Country Championships.

Kehe is an exercise science major with a 3.89 GPA and was Ball State's second-best runner in four meets during the 2009 season. The senior had two top 25 finishes, including a 23rd place at the Sam Bell Invitational.

With these awards, Bishel and Kehe have made a combined nine Academic All-MAC Teams. Bishel has six Academic All-MAC selections as a member of the cross country team and track and field team, and Kehe is a three-time recipient as a member of the cross country team, track and field team and women's swimming and diving team.
