MEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State defeats Valparaiso 88-78 in season opener

Cardinals score most points in a game since the 2005 season

The Ball State University men's basketball team defeated Valparaiso University 88-78 in tonight's 2009-10 season opener at Worthen Arena.

The Cardinals (1-0) had six players with double-digit scoring totals, led by sophomore center Jarrod Jones' 19 points. Junior forward Malik Perry (17 points), freshman guard Jauwan Scaife (14), senior guard Brawley Chisholm (12), senior forward Terrence Watson (11) and sophomore guard Randy Davis (11) rounded out the other double-digit scorers for Ball State.

For the Crusaders (0-1), sophomore guard Brandon Wood (25 points) and junior forward Cory Johnson (21 points, nine rebounds), led the way.

Ball State led 42-38 at halftime, and its 88 points tonight tied for the most in a game since it defeated Western Michigan 88-81 in 2005.
