FOOTBALL: Ohio takes 9-7 lead into halftime

Bobcats kick 52-yard field goal as time expires in first half

The fourth blocked kick of the season for Ohio University set up a 52-yard field goal as time expired in the first half and gave the visitors a 9-7 lead.

It was the first time this year that punter Scott Kovanda had a kick blocked and it was very costly for Ball state University.

The Cardinals had taken a 7-6 lead on Eric Williams' one-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. The freshman set up his score with a 55-yard run on third down.

The Cardinals were able to stonewall the Bobcats twice in the red zone in the first half. Ohio twice had to settle for field goals close to the goal line.

The defense has had problems getting off the field in the first half, however. Ohio was able to convert a fourth down on a botched punt and Ball State was penalized for roughing the kicker. Ohio also was awarded a first down pickup that even surprised their coaching staff, which had sent out the punt team.

Williams leads all rushers with 56 yards. MiQuale Lewis also has 21 rushing yards. Tanner Justice completed his only pass for six yards. He has also been sacked once. On defense, Brandon Crawford has two tackles, both for a loss.

Ohio has been led on offense by running back Vince Davidson with 39 rushing yards. Quarterback Theo Scott is 8-of-15 for 67 yards and an interception. Kicker Matt Weller is 3-for-3 on field goal attempts.
