For many students and fans, tonight's game will begin long before kickoff. A tradition almost as old as football itself - tailgating - will be in full force outside Scheumann Stadium.
Before heading out to tailgate, here are some rules you need to know.
What's allowed:Grills: If you use charcoal, Ball State provides bins to dump your old charcoal into once it's cooled.
Beer: If you're over 21, you are allowed to drink, but University Police, Muncie Police, as well as Delaware County Sheriffs, the State Police and the Excise Police will all be there to watch for underage drinking. If you are underage you can go, just don't drink.
Cornhole: A college and tailgating staple in the Midwest, there are sure to be dozens of cornhole sets at tailgating.
What isn't allowed:Glass bottles: Anything you drink has to be in cans, or paper or plastic cups. The reasons are fairly obvious for this rule.Beer pong and other drinking games: According to the tailgating rules set by the Athletics Department, "No drinking games or drinking game apparatuses are permitted." If you know or even think it's a drink game, don't bother.Kegs or hard liquor: Save the keg stands and body shots for after the game. Neither are allowed at tailgating.
Other tailgating ideas:- Bring some food. For guys, it's a great way to prove who's the better chef and food from the grocery store is cheaper than food at the concession stands in the stadium anywhere.
- At the end of tailgating, which is about fifteen minutes before the game, the police will start directing everyone toward the stadium.
