BASEBALL: Hazelbaker batting less than .200 after first week in minors

Almost one week after signing a major league contract, former Ball State University baseball player Jeremy Hazelbaker has already began his professional career.

After eight games, Hazelbaker is batting .174, with four hits from 23 at bats. Hazelbaker also has notched two runs, an RBI, six walks and three stolen bases.

Hazelbaker is currently playing for the Greenville (South Carolina) Drive, the Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox in the South Atlantic League. The Drive are next in action today as they begin a four game series against the Haderstown (Maryland) Suns. The Drive won their division during the first half of the season, but are 7-9 since. Hagerstown is currently in place last in their division at 5-12.

If Hazelbaker were to get called up beyond the Drive, he would go to the Salem Red Sox, which is the advanced Single A Boston affiliate. Beyond that is the AA Potland Sea Dogs, the AAA Pawtucket Red Sox and then the Major League Boston Red Sox.
