WOMEN'S GOLF: Cardinal to play in amateur national championship

A member of the Ball State University women's golf team will compete in a amateur national championship.

Sophomore Kristtini Cain qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship after shooting a 7-over-par 78 at the sectional qualifier at Greenwood, Ind.

As a freshman last season, Cain placed in the top 10 five times, including third-place finishes at the Saluki Invitational and Ball State Cardinal Classic. She also was named the team's freshman of the year.

The championship will be June 22-27 at the Red Tail Golf Club in Devens, Mass. To be eligible for this tournament players had to have a handicap less than 18.4 and only compete on public courses.
