BASEBALL: Senior pitcher drafted by Astros

Second Ball State player taken in draft this year

The Houston Astros drafted Ball State University pitcher Brenden Stines in the 33rd round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft on Thursday.

Stines is the second Cardinal to be drafted this year, joining center fielder Jeremy Hazelbaker, who was drafted in the fourth round yesterday. Stines was taken with the 1,001 pick of the draft, which lasts 50 rounds.

Stines is a senior and was considered a long shot to be drafted. Before the draft coach Greg Beals said it was more likely that he would be signed as a free agent after the draft.
