Talent show comes to Pruis

The first annual So You Think You Got Talent show will feature artists and dancers from across Indiana on Saturday in Pruis Hall.

"It's an event you don't want to miss," event coordinator Bradley Bardwell (better known as DJ B-Rad) said. "There's going to be a lot of crazy stuff going on to keep the audience entertained. We want to fill every seat in Pruis Hall."

So You Think You Got Talent will showcase everything from hip-hop and rap to poetry and dance. There will be 24 acts competing for a $500 prize.

"Getting the talent and making sure it's competitive has been the hardest part," Bardwell said. "It's one thing to get talent, but for you to have high-caliber talent over here and low grade over there, that's no good. We're going to have nine to 10 acts that are dancers and dance teams, eight to 10 acts that are hip-hop acts, four or five that do spoken word or poetry and two or three singing groups or solo acts."

Among those competing in the dance division is Ball State junior Bernard White. Inspired by his cousin, White said, he took up dancing in high school and has even danced in the Pacers half time show. But sincegoing to college, he's started taking dance a lot more seriously.

"I go by No Face, because when I dance I usually have my hat over my face so you can't see my face, that way you can focus on my dance moves," White said. "I'm really looking forward to testing myself to see how far I can take it. Hopefully they're will be some exposure to people and the other dance teams, just to give me a feel for how itwill be to dance in front of a larger crowd."

Muncie natives Tha Paper Boiz will represent Ball State in the talent show. Made up of Justin McDowell and Tramaine Pulley, Young Mak and Young Maine respectively, they've been together for more than a year and recently released their first album, "Adrenaline Rush," featuring 17 original songs including their hit single, "Jello Dance."

"We're just a hip-hop group coming out that obviously has a new way to do hip-hop," McDowell said. "After we got done doing 'Jello Dance,' which is our first single, a club owner up north called us up and asked if we'd be interested in performing. He also let us know that we would be the only act performing at this club that wasn't signed to a major record label."

Besides seeing talented performances, audience members at the show will also be qualified to participate in more than forty giveaways, including two round-trip tickets to Las Vegas.

"There's no telling how people are going to win this stuff," Bardwell said. "Hopefully we see some crazy stuff out there just to keep us entertained."

Pre-sale show tickets are $10, and tickets at the door are $13. To order tickets, call or text 317-850-6828. Proceeds will go to Motivate Our Minds, a local Muncie minority youth center. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
