A Ball State University student remained in Delaware County Jail as of 4:30 p.m. today after Muncie police arrested him on suspicion of possession of a handgun by a dangerous felon, among other charges, jail officials said.
James Cleo Robertson, 40, was arrested early Wednesday after Muncie police received a report from a complainant, who was unnamed in the police report, that someone had stolen a handgun and driven off in a white Cadillac Eldorado, according to police reports.
Robertson is a freshman at Ball State, Kevin Burke, director of communications, said.
Muncie police officer Anthony Calvert was on duty when he saw the vehicle and turned on his lights to pull the car over, but the vehicle sped off and lost control when it tried to turn a corner, according to reports. Robertson bailed out of the vehicle while it was still in drive, according to reports.
Robertson fled on foot, but a police dog caught him, at which point police found a handgun magazine on him and the reportedly stolen gun in his car.
Paramedics took Robertson to Ball Memorial Hospital where he was treated then booked into Delaware County Jail on a $32,500 bond. Blood tests at the hospital showed Robertson had a blood-alcohol content of .21, according to the report.
