MEN'S BASKETBALL: Broncos squeeze by Cards 84-82 in overtime thriller

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Ball State University men's basketball team lost 84-82 to host Western Michigan University tonight in the Cardinals' first overtime contest of the season.

The loss forces yet another tie atop the Mid-American Conference West Division standings between the Cardinals and the Broncos with both teams' regular season finales set for Sunday afternoon.

A Ball State win at home against Eastern Michigan University or a Western Michigan loss at home against Central Michigan University on Sunday and the Cardinals can still clinch a MAC West title and a No. 2 seed in next week's MAC Tournament in Cleveland.

Freshman center Jarrod Jones led the way for Ball State with a team-high 20 points and a team-high tying seven rebounds. Four other Cardinals reached double-digit scoring totals, as senior guard Brandon Lampley added 19, freshman forward Mo Hubbard scored 14, and senior guards Laron Frazier and Rob Giles added 11 apiece.

Broncos' guard Shawntes Gary scored a game-high 27 points, and guard David Kool added 22 points.

The Cardinals (13-15, 7-8 MAC) play Eastern Michigan at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Worthen Arena.
