The final Dance Marathon total is in, and president Chelsea Backus could not be more excited.
This year's Dance Marathon raised $12,123, about $1,500 less than last year's event.
Backus said the amount of money raised was less than last year due to a reduction in the number of sponsors.
"We had to rely on letters written by the dancers," she said. "But considering the recession, we are glad a lot of people participated in the event."
Backus also said the number raised in the marathon is not definitive.
"We are still receiving money from the letters written," she said. "We will send a check in the first couple of weeks of April."
Because the recession is causing more people to consider what amount to donate, the organization is going to make some changes on how much to ask, Backus said.
"We already have planned to look for smaller donations from more people from the community," she said. "And we are thinking of more special events and ways to help the community."
Along with the new plans, the Ball State chapter for Dance Marathon assigned a new president for next year's event.
Sophomore public relations major Kelli Martin said she was named president last week.
"I am really excited," she said. "It means a lot to be in this position. I'm scared and nervous, but there are some different things I'm planning to do at the same time and I'm really looking forward to it."
Martin's new plans includes adding new positions to the executive board.
"We want to make the Dance Marathon bigger and better, like Indiana University or Purdue."
A call meeting will be held this Tuesday. Information about the Dance Marathon will be given and students will be able to sign up for next year's event, Backus said.
"Our goal is to include more students," she said. "To help them see what a life changing experience this fundraiser is."
