With Student Government Association elections closing today at 6:45 p.m., all three presidential candidates said they were happy with how the election season has gone and felt confident.
Cardinal Impact presidential candidate Beth Cahill said she and the other members had their last speaking engagements Monday night at Pi Beta Phi sorority and Botsford/Swinford Hall floor meetings. She said the slate would be at the Scramble Light today passing out cookies, T-shirts, fliers and buttons.
Cardinal Impact's main goal today is to get ahold of all of its member's friends and organizations to ask for support.
Cahill said she was confident with the work she and her slate has done, but the other slates have worked hard as well.
"I think each member of each slate has hours where they are confident and hours when they are sick to their stomachs with nerves and stress," she said.
Cardinal Collaboration presidential candidate Nathan Meeks said his slate would spend today talking to individual students at populated areas of campus, such as the Atrium and Bracken Library. The slate wouldn't have time to do much else but talk to students and make sure they vote, he said, and slate members won't address platform points unless students have questions. Apathy among students is a problem, he said, and Cardinal Collaboration will try to combat that as much as possible.
Meeks said he was relaxed and thought the slate's chance at winning was as good as the others. He said he's enjoyed campaigning and was glad he had the opportunity.
University Coalition presidential candidate Kerri Cropper said her slate also would spend time at the Scramble Light, as well as visiting student organizations. She said the slate wants to make itself as visible as possible in the last hours of the election.
"This is completely up to the students now in the next 24 and a half hours," Cropper said.
She is confident in University Coalition's chances, she said, and was happy to have the support students have given and proud to have endorsements from University Democrats and the Daily News.
The election results will be announced at 9 p.m. on NewsWatch, channel 57 on campus and channel 61 off campus.
Cardinal Impact and University Coalition will watch the announcement at separate fraternity houses. Meeks said Cardinal Collaboration was not planning on watching the results, but would be waiting for the phone call.
