WOMEN'S TENNIS: BSU tries to extend its winning streak

The Ball State University women's tennis team will travel to Indianapolis on Saturday with some momentum after grabbing its second consecutive shutout victory Tuesday.

The Cardinals defeated IUPUI 7-0 last week and Valparaiso University with the same score earlier this week. Now Ball State will face its first back-to-back days of competition this season.

The Cardinals will play at a neutral location, Butler University, to take on Murray State University. Ball State will then play host to Bradley University on Sunday.

Coach Kathy Bull said it will be interesting to see how the team will react.

"This is a little bit of a unique situation for the team, being on the road Saturday and back home Sunday," Bull said. "We may have an advantage playing at a neutral site Saturday, but these are two good opponents for us, especially Murray."

Bull said she added Murray State to the Cardinals' schedule because she wanted a strong team to face throughout the season, and she thought the Racers would pose a good challenge for Ball State. The neutral site location was decided because of a three-day roadtrip that Murray State is on during the weekend.

The Racers will be at Evansville today before heading to Indianapolis for two days to face Ball State Saturday at Butler University. They then take on the host Bulldogs of Butler Sunday to finish off a three-day Hoosier tour.

Murray State holds a 4-3 record on the season going into its match today against Evansville.

Bradley University will end a similar tour of Indiana on Sunday in Muncie against the Cardinals. While Murray State will be on the road in southern Indiana, Bradley will tour the northern region of the state.

The Braves will be in Fort Wayne Saturday to take on Robert Morris University at 9 a.m. before packing up and going to IPFW, also in Fort Wayne, to take on the Mastodons at 2 p.m. The weekend will come to a close Sunday at 1 p.m. when the Cardinals play host to Bradley in Muncie at the YMCA Tennis Center.

The lineup for the Cardinals might have a few changes between matches. Freshman Hannah Oman has been sidelined for the past few weeks after battling mononucleosis but completed a near full practice Thursday. She has been cleared to play by her doctor and is expected to compete in doubles competition Sunday, if not both days.

Sophomore Hayley Hall will most likely be on the sidelines in Saturdays match but has plans to play Sunday in a home match against Bradley. Hall has seen limited playing time this season as she is recovering from a back injury that she had surgery for during the summer.
