The Ball State University women's basketball team knocked off its fifth straight Mid-American Conference opponent Tuesday, this time beating Eastern Michigan University 68-59 on the road.
The Cardinals (19-8, 11-2 MAC) have defeated the Eagles (7-18, 3-10 MAC) in their last six contests dating back to the 2005-06 season.
Senior guard Porchia Green led the Cardinals in scoring with 18 points shooting 5-7 from the free-throw line. She also had a career-high four blocks in the win.
Sophomore forward Emily Maggert added 13 points to the team's overall score, including a first-half 3-pointer and was 5-6 from the floor in the first period.
Junior guard Audrey McDonald also contributed double-digit points, scoring 11 for Ball State. She hit two from behind the arc and scored her remaining five points from the free-throw line.
Danielle Gratton contributed on the boards and in the assist column. The junior forward pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and dished out a career-high five assists.
After being named the MAC West Division Player of the Week Monday, senior guard Kiley Jarrett struggled shooting from the floor but added seven points and two assists in 38 minutes of action.
A Green 3-pointer gave the Cardinals the lead with 3:51 remaining in the first period, and the team never looked back. Before that shot, there were three lead changes and eight ties in the first half.
Ball State went into the half leading by five points and came out in the second period to stretch the lead. A Jarrett 3-pointer extended the lead to 10 with 16:13 remaining.
The Eagles would pull back within three points of Ball State with 11:38 remaining, large in part due to Eastern Michigan's backcourt. The three starting guards combined for 41 points, and freshman guard Tavelyn James led the way with a game-high 21 points.
Free throws in the late stages of the game solidified another win for the Cardinals. Ball State was 16-21 in the second half from the free-throw line, including 8-10 in the final 3:23 of the game.
The Cardinals return home for another MAC West game when they take on Western Michigan University at 1 p.m. Sunday.
