The initiative of students willing to pull an all-nighter paid off when they learned the amount of money they raised by staying awake.
With a total of $15,869 Up 'til Dawn, an organization dedicated to raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, achieved its goal of collecting more money than last year.
Students gave up a night of sleep in honor of the patients of St. Jude who fight cancer.
Megan Johnson, a junior secondary education major and the president of Up 'til Dawn, said she was excited about the results.
"I am really proud of us," she said. "Considering the state of the economy and the amount of money individuals are actually still setting aside to donate to charitable causes, I think this amount is awesome."
Friday's event was more fun and exciting than in the past, according to Johnson, who ran last year's Up 'til Dawn.
"We were able to pull some resources that we didn't have last year," she said. "And it turned out really well."
The fundraiser officially ends until May 31, however, so the amount raised as of Feb. 27 will change, Johnson said.
"We still have a couple of months to raise more money," she said. "So I am looking forward to find out how much we will raise by the end."
