Who to watch at the MAC Championship
Christina Riordan:11th 1-meter diving11th 3-meter divingChristina Riordan had a good shot at finishing in the top eight on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, but after rupturing her eardrum during practice two weeks ago her performance could be limited. She has seen limited time in the water and has been resorting to on-deck training using a trampoline for the majority of the past two weeks. Coach Laura Seibold-Caudill said depending on how her ear feels, she still has the potential to finish in the top eight in both the one and three-meter events.
Lisa Maertin:6th 1-meter diving3rd 3-meter divingMaertin is diving as well as she has all year. After scoring a 301.13 on 3-meter at the last meet of the regular season, Maertin is going into the championships with enough confidence to make a real effect on both 1-meter and 3-meter boards.
Emily Haifley6th 100-yard breaststroke4th 200-yard breaststrokeThe freshman broke the school record in the 200-yard breaststroke by almost two seconds earlier this season. Haifley said all the pressure is on the seniors from other schools in her events to perform, not her. The nothing-to-lose attitude this has created for Haifley could make her the potential upset story of the meet, with an outside shot at winning both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke.
Megan Ploetz12th 200-yard butterflyThe senior butterflier said she is going into the meet with only one goal - to go out with no regrets. The senior has been training hard the past few weeks and has a good chance to surprise some people and finish in the top eight in the 200-yard butterfly.
Whitney Adams9th 1-meter divingThis freshman diver has steadily improved during the course of the season and is coming into the championship ranked ninth in one-meter diving. Coach Laura Seibold-Caudill said divers from other schools are going to be surprised at what Adams is going to do at the meet and expects a top eight finish from Adams.
