SOFTBALL: Cards win two of five at invitational

The Ball State University softball team started the season with a pair of wins in the Georgia Softball Classic this weekend.

The team went 2-3 during the course of the three-day invitational defeating the University of North Carolina-Greensboro Friday and IUPUI Sunday.

Junior college transfer Jen Reifschneider hit three home runs during the weekend.

"I was feeling really good this weekend," Reifschneider said. "I really hope this continues throughout the season."

Reifschnider's three home runs almost puts her half way to the Ball State single season home run record of eight. This is after the Cardinals have played five of their 60 regular season games.

Last year at Pratt Community College, Reifschneider broke school records with 22 home runs and 85 RBIs.

Pitcher Elizabeth Milian said overall the team did well, though they had to work through some beginning of the season jitters.

The team won its first game against UNC-Greensboro on Friday, dropped its next three and rallied in its final game of the invitational scoring 15 runs against IUPUI.

The Cardinals have the week to prepare for their next journey south as they will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Razorback Invitational.
