SOFTBALL: Ball State finally gets chance to get on the field

Being inside for four months can give even the strongest of wills cabin fever.

The Ball State University softball team gets to break from the confines of the Field and Sports Building this weekend as it starts its season in Athens, Ga., at the Georgia Softball Classic.

"We're just ready to get out on the field and play somebody that isn't us," coach Craig Nicholson said.

The team will hit the ground running playing a total of five games this weekend. Junior pitcher Elizabeth Milian said the team is up for the challenge.

"We're all pretty excited about this weekend," Milian said. "I don't know a lot about all of our opponents, but coach is going to try and put our best team on the field."

Friday the team will play a doubleheader against University of North Carolina at Greensboro and host school University of Georgia.

Saturday the team will again have a doubleheader but this time against Marshall University and Tennessee State University.

The Cardinals will close out the weekend against IUPUI at 11 a.m. Sunday.
