Mr. Phi-Nominal competitors perform for sold-out Pruis Hall crowd

Steven Albritton showed off his smooth moves to a sold-out crowd at Pruis Hall Wednesday for Alpha Phi's 10th annual Mr. Phi-Nominal competition.

Members of Alpha Phi sorority wore red dresses to cheer on contestants. Greek-lettered T-shirts littered the rest of the crowd.

Albritton was crowned Mr. Phi-Nominal for his dancing skills.

None of the top three went home empty handed. Sophomore Kenny Mosley, who also danced his way to the top, took home the award for Mr. Congeniality.

Sophomore Noel Kunz won crowd favorite for wowing the crowd with yo-yo moves that went beyond walking the dog. His yo-yo trickery earned him a standing ovation.

Best Talent went to sophomore Nick Rapley, who played the drums. He also played backup acoustic guitar for another contestant.

Up first was freshman Paul Martin who sang R&B directly to the ladies in red. He said he entered the competition because he wanted a chance to show off his talent and that performing was something he liked to do.

"If you're afraid to lose, how can you win?" Martin said.

Returning competitor junior Michael Niezer said he competed two years ago and returned because of peer pressure.

He represented FIJI fraternity by jumping rope.

"I got phone calls and e-mails," he said. "I came out to represent my fraternity."

Mr. Phi-Nominal 2007 made a piano and song appearance causing the crowd to go crazy.

Following the intermission the co-emcee for the evening, Alpha Phi member Lauren Madden, took the stage. She belted out a country tune and was met by applause.
