The Ball State University men's tennis team will get a chance to take down a Big Ten team on Sunday and score state bragging rights in the process.
Casual fans might not boast about their tennis teams, but the Cardinals hope to give fans something to cheer about if they can defeat Purdue University.
"I think it adds to the excitement," coach Bill Richards said. "It's the second Big Ten team to come here. I think everyone is excited and well motivated."
The Cardinals (5-4) are coming off their best performance against a Big Ten team Feb. 21 against Michigan State University. Ball State won the doubles point and led in multiple singles matches before Michigan State took control of the match.
The team has spent the week working on preventing another collapse.
"We've talked a lot this week," Richards said. "I think players were pressing a bit and maybe putting too much pressure on themselves. Just learn from the past and do better Sunday."
Purdue has a record of 3-5 entering its match with Ball State. One loss came against Mid-American Conference team Western Michigan University 4-3.
Play begins at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
