MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards let halftime lead slip in 71-67 loss at Toledo

The Ball State University men's basketball team lost 71-67 to host University of Toledo tonight for the Cardinals' seventh straight loss at Toledo's Savage Arena.

Ball State has not won in Toledo since the 2002-03 season.

Leading the way for the Cardinals with a career-high 22 points was senior forward Rob Giles. Giles shot 8-for-12 from the field, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, against the Rockets, including a game-high 12 rebounds to complete the double-double.

Three other Cardinals had double-digit scoring totals. Freshman center Jarrod Jones added 14 points and seven rebounds for Ball State, while senior guard Brandon Lampley had 11 points and freshman forward Mo Hubbard added 10.

Despite shooting 25-for-50 from the field, 6-for-14 from 3-point land and 11-of-13 from the free throw line, Ball State (11-13, 6-6 Mid American Conference) was unable to sustain a 33-26 halftime lead to the Rockets (5-21, 3-9 MAC).

Senior guard Tyrone Kent led all scorers with 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting for the Rockets. Senior guard Jonathan Amos added 14 points and a game-high five assists, sophomore forward Justin Anyijong had 12 points and sophomore forward Mohamed Lo added 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday for a non-conference matchup with Tennessee Tech University in ESPN BracketBuster action at Worthen Arena. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
